Earthquake shakes Los Angeles during rush hour

A major earthquake shook the Los Angeles area in the middle of the morning rush hour on Thursday.

The United States Geological Survey has given a preliminary measurement of 4.7 for the earthquake, but the measure remains fluid. The USGS says the quake originated roughly 7 kilometers north of Malibu.

An aftershock of roughly 2.8 magnitude also shook the Los Angeles area shortly after the original quake.
